Nanny on the Road...

Miss Holland 1976, Nanny Verwey Nielen who won the lifetime achievement award of misshollandnow.com this year. The award was awarded at the Miss Nederland 2010 pageant (photo).

Nanny is a reporter for Miss Holland Now and visits almost all the pageants and castings. Besides that she has been and will always be a very big help for beauty queens in the Netherlands.

Back in 1975 Nanny did her first Miss Holland pageant, she was placed as 3rd Runner-up and that gave her a ticket to the Miss International pageant in Tokio. Nanny was at the time a redhead. Nanny had a great time in Okinawa and became one of the semi-finalists. Also in 1976 she participated in the Miss Benelux pageant. In 1976 she entered her second Miss Holland pageant. This time she was placed first runner-up. After the Miss Europe pageant where Lucy Visser, Miss Holland 1976 winner , was placed as second runner-up, Lucy gave up the crown and Nanny replaced her and went to the Miss Universe pageant in Hong Kong as the official Miss Holland.

In 1978 she enterd both Miss Holland pageants. in 1979 she participated again and finished as second runner-up and she was send to the Miss World pageant in Londen. The last two times Nanny participated in the Miss Holland pageant was in 1980 and in 1982.

 But Nanny did not only participate in the Miss Holland pageant she also was a contestant in several national pageants: Miss Grand Prix in 1976 (1st Ru) and in 1977 (Winner). She was 2nd Ru ath the Miss Amsterdam pageant in 1975 and 1st Ru in 1976. She also won the Miss Rio pageant in 1977, this pageant took place in Den Helder.

Nanny visited on november 7th the show "Blues Brothers" at the "Theaterfabriek" in Amsterdam. She visited it together with her very good friend Miss Holland 1975 Lynda Snippe.

On saterday oktober 30th Nanny was one of the two judges at the first Miss Alkmaar Noord pageant the other was singer Steffie Zoontjes, famous for her winning the television show "Popstars". Winner was Marinda, first runner-up was Monique and second runner-up was Rianne

On thursday oktober 28th Nanny was one of guests at the "Art of Nature Event"in Vught. Nanny worked the stage as one of the 6 special models. These 6 models are survivers of cancer. But Nanny was not the only beauty Queen who rocked the stage also present were several Miss Nederland 2010 finalists and Miss Nederland 2009, Avalon-Chanel Weyzig. All profits of the event went to Pink Ribbon.

Miss Holland Now dinner with Sheryl-Lynn Baas

Yesterday Miss Nederland 2006, Sheryl-Lynn Baas had dinner with Miss Holland Now. Sheryl visited the headquarters of the team and we talked about many things like her being Miss Nederland and about her foundation. This foundation was stared by Sheryl-Lynn when she was Miss Nederland and she wanted to use her title not only for herselve but also for the people who are in need in the Philippines. Sheryl-Lyn her mother was born in the Philippines. Last year we visited the benefit event of the foundation together with our Miss Holland Now of the Year 2010, Inger de Jonge. We were surprised by the warmth and the spirit of the evening.

This year Sheryl-Lyn wants to raise enough money to build a stage for a school. This open stage will be the centre of all kinds of activities for the children of this school. We will keep you updated on the progress of this beautiful initiative.

Yesterday Nanny visited the Olympic Stadium for the "A Sisters Hope" organisation. This organisation organises a two day event to collect money for breastcancer research. The event is a walk of 60 kilometers in two days. Nanny was there for people who suffer from hairloss during the chemotherapy for the "Geef haar een kans" (Give her/hair a chance) foundation. Nanny herself is a survivor of breastcancer and she used a special headcap, which freezes the hairfollicles, to prevent hairloss. It was a very special day for her and she will be there next year to help even more..

Nanny was one of the jury members at the first Queen of the Benelux pageant, organised by Milou Verhoeks and she visited the Ellen ten Damme show at Carré, Amsterdam. on the picture we see Nanny together with Avalon Chanel, Miss Nederland 2009 and Milou Verhoeks at the Queen of the Benelux pageant.

Nanny together with the 3J's, They have number one hit at this time together with Ellen ten Damme with the beautifull song: "Wat is Dromen ?" (What is dreaming?). In 2011 they will represent the Netherlands at the Eurovision songcontest.		Miss Holland 1975, Lynda Bos-Snippe and Miss Holland 1976, Nanny Verwey-Nielen together with Hilly Lefeber, Hilly is one of the sponsors of Miss Nederland 2010, Desiree van den Berg. She owns "de Bruidssuite". A shop where you can find the most lovely eveninggowns and bridal wear.		A great show, was what Nanny had to say about the "Cirque Stiletto" show that shows ellen ten Damme at her best. What started as an experiment is now a show that will travel all around the Netherlands this season.

Opening of exhibition "Geluk"...

Yesterday Nanny was at the opening of the exhibition "Geluk". The exhibition is about happy (Geluk) memories of people from Amsterdam in words and in images. One of the "Lucky" people is Nanny who tells and shows a story about her national costume and her bathingsuit from the Miss Holland 1976 pageant. You can visit the exhibition from september 5th untill september 26th every thursday till sunday at "Basisburo", Tolstraat 129. The big finally of Miss Callantsoog was yesterday and our won Nanny Verwey Nielen was there to support her stephdaughter Bojoura Verwey. But Nanny was not alone....she was there together with her husband and the father of Bojoura, Reggie Verwey. It is Bojoura her second pageant this year and it was very succesfull as Bo became the first runner-up at the Miss Callantsoog 2010 pageant.

Yesterday when the whole world was watching the Miss Universe pageant our Nanny Verwey Nielen visited the second semi final of the Miss Callantsoog pageant. This pageant wil have it's final next monday and will be held for the 34th time!!

The pageant is organised by Suus and Dick Dortmundt in Partycentre "De Vijverhut" in Groote Keeten. Back in 2004 the "de Vijverhut"was burned down and the whole history of the pageant was lost. If anybody has any kind of information or pictures  from the Miss Callantsoog pageant from the past please contact Nanny at nanny@misshollandnow.com, she will be in contact with the pageant...

Last week Nanny helped Desiree van den Berg with her preperations for the Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas. The two of them went shopping for jewelry who are sponored by Otazu. On the picture we see the two after the Rotterdam summer carnaval in front of Desiree her home.

Nanny was also at a photoshoot at the "Bruidsuite" who is a sponsor for Desiree her cocktail dresses.

Last sunday, august 1st, on my weddingday the three of us went to the world premère of "Crazy Shopping"the musical. No, we did not get a baby in the mean time, I am over 50! But we went together with Miss Nederland 2009 Avalon Chanel Weyzig.

We had a marvelous afternoon. Always fun to meet with celebs.

The musical is about shopping addiction and who doesn't like shopping! We heard al kind of new and old songs song by great singers like: Caronine Mout, Antje Monteiro, Casey Fransisco, Miranda van Kralingen and Tony Neef. It was a show with lots of dancing, singing and fashion. So when you like all these thing: A must see!!

After the show we got a goody bag worth 59 euro!! The three of us had a great afternoon, thanks Monica Strotmann and Elisa van der Meijden.
