Queen of the Netherlands 2009

Oktober 2nd, De Eemhof, Zeewolde

After months of preperations we finally witnessed the crowning of the Miss Queen of the World Netherlands 2009 in Zeewolde. Last years Queen Milou Verhoeks is the national director of the Queen of the World Netherlands.

Many judges had to decide who would be the Miss Queen of the Netherlands 2009. There were beauty queens like: Sabrina van der Donk (Miss Earth Netherlands 2006), Melanie de Laat (Miss BeNeLux Netherlands 2008 and Miss Holland Now of the year 2008/2009) and even Stephanie Gossweiler (Miss Earth Switserland 2007). There were also sponsors like Laurissa, EGO cosmetics and Rosa underwear who were  members of the jury. Stefan from Miss Holland Now  was also one of the lucky ones to be a judge and was seated between Melanie de Laat and Stephanie Gossweiler.

Milou presented us a great show, with a lot of dance, glamour and excitement. During the break we saw the sexy act "Jameerah". Members of the group are beauty Queens like Miss Belgium 1998, Tanja Dexters, Miss Germany 2007, Nelly Gojahr, also from Belgium and Mannequin of the year 2006, Elisa Guarraci and from the Netherlands Miss Beautifull Black 1998 Jasmine Sendar. It was the first time the all girl group did a performance in the Netherlands.

After all the rounds of competition and several awards the final verdict was spoken by our host of the evening. The top three in reverse order: Sanne Roffel repeated her placement from a few weeks before at the Miss International pageant and became the second runner-up. Aletta de Wit, one of the favorites of the audience  became the first runner-up. It was Inger de Jonge who won the title. Inger was a finalist at last years Miss BeNeLux pageant. Inger was very happy with her victory and was crowned by Milou Verhoeks.

Casting Queen of the Netherlands 2009

`I like them all´

Oloroso cafe/restaurant in Leiden was the setting of the casting for Queen of the Netherlands 2009. This was the first time the new Queen of the World Netherlands Organisation, lead by Milou Verhoeks, organised this casting. There were 34 girls, some accompanied by their friends and relatives.

The jury consisted of:

Milou Verhoeks, Queen of the World Netherlands 2008

Nanny Verwey-Nielen, Miss Holland 1976

Greg Robles de Medina from Laurissa Inspired

Cora Stokman from Laurissa Inspired

Martin Graman from Ego Cosmetics

Stefan Hoven from MissHollandNow

Host for the event was Marianne Berkhuijsen from Missahoe Wonder.

Our own Robin had a chat with the people present. Everybody there was very excited and they chatted among each other. Even the guests of the cafe who were not familiar with beauty pageants, only Holland’s Next Top Model, thought it was interesting ......

For some girls it was the first time they went to a casting and they were very curious how it would be. Some of them always wanted to be a beauty queen, one even watched the Miss Universe pageant with her grandmother every year or wanted to be a princess, and others were just asked to participate. Amongst the participants there were girls which already participated in other pageants and castings and some of them even had modelling experience. And of course every parent thinks their daughter is the most beautiful.......

Most of the girls were glad it wasn´t only about beauty but there was a very good cause connected to this pageant; one mother said she was glad her daughter chose to participate in this pageant because of the good cause. I asked the girls which cause they would support if they would even win the Queen of the World, and the answers were very diverse, from a local up to a global scale: education in Asia, children in need, animals, promoting arts and crafts in the world, KiKa (fund for children with cancer), freedom of speach, equality in diffrent aspects, to be a rolemodel for girls (that they don’t have to be thin to be beautiful).

Out of these stunnig 34 girls, 15 finalists were chosen.

The jury had a very hard job and it will continue on october 2nd when the Queen of the World Netherlands 2009 will be chosen.

Finaly we know all the finalists. The last one to leave the pageant is Valentina Poetsema who was due to school schedules unable te stay as a finalist. She is replaced by Mariah Mancevu, who is also the current Miss Balkan in the Netherlands. Yesterday we met with her and also with Dominique the other new finalist. Both girls were very happy to be in the race of becomming the 2010 Queen of the Netherlands. The setting was a very glamorous photoshoot for the programm book in Leiden. The girls were dressed by "Laurisa Inspired" and the make-up was done by "Make U Up".

On the photo we see Milou Verhoeks wearing the new crown for the Queen of the Netherlands 2010.

We from MissHollandNow are very proud of our Miss Holland Now of the year 2007/2008 and still remember the first time we saw her on stage at the Miss BeNeLux 2008 pageant. She was radiant and blew most of the girls away. And we will hear much more  from this woman!!!
